Mulit-Media Website

Kristen and I created web page about penguins! Our page was created for grade levels 1-5. We researched all 16 types of penguins and wrote a description for each type of penguin. We included a lot of information about penguins. This was a very time consuming project. We are both very proud of our web page!

Hope you enjoy!

What Causes Day and Night?

I created my video using Windows Movie Maker. It was a long process but fairly easy to use. The topic of my video is a Ohio State Standard: "What Causes Day and Night?" The students will have to create their own video using a 5th grade state standard. I hope you enjoy!

My Personal Learning Network

My Personal Learning Network

I found http://www.mywebspiration.com to be very user-friendly. I think since it is so user-friendly that my 5th grade students will be able to complete an assignment very easily. As a class we will read Bud not Buddy. When we are finished reading the novel the students will have to complete a diagram using http://www.mywebspiration.com. They will need Bud not Buddy as their main idea and connect 3 bubbles from it. Each bubble will have to describe a character from the novel.
The students will also have to create a diagram at the end of the school year. 5th grade needs to be the main idea and connect 5 bubbles to it. The 5 bubbles have to math, science, social studies, reading and language arts. They will need to include 3 new concepts they learned in each subject.

PodCast

Pod Cast

I used Windows Movie Maker and found it very easy to upload a picture and record my example. The students will have to complete a persuasive writing activity. The students will have to persuade the principal to add a new item on their daily lunch menu.  Then the students will have to find a picture of the food item they are writing about. After they finished their assignment they will have to upload the picture and record their writing with Windows Movie Maker.

Wiki Lesson

I think the http://www.wikispaces.com/ is a great resource for teachers! It is another way for teachers to collaborate and bring new ideas into the classroom.  I shared my  Solid, Liquid or Gas online photo album and slideshow.  This  lesson is a very easy tool to assess if students understand the differences between a solid, liquid and gas.
http://ktwelve.wikispaces.com/Solid%2C+Liquid+and+Gas

This a great website to help students learn more characteristics about a solid, liquid and gas:
I feel that http://www.wikispaces.com/ is an easy tool for 5th graders to share their ideas on.

WebQuest

My students will be researching The 3 Branches of Government. The students will be grouped with 2 other students. Each group will need to complete 2 worksheets while visiting the websites that are provided. After, the worksheets are complete the groups will need to create a PowerPoint Presentation about the 3 Branches of Government. The PowerPoint Presentation needs to include the powers for each Branch of Government.
I found www.zunal.com to be very user-friendly.

Virtual Tour

For my virtual tour my students will be traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, Austin, Texas and Santa Fe, Mexico. The students will be visiting important museums in each capitol. There will be questions at each museum for the students to answer. After, the students complete their virtual tour they will be assigned to a group and have to create their own virtual tour. The students will have to choose three different states along with 2 questions for each state. The questions are as follows: What is the state’s capitol? What is the state’s bird? The students need to include a a minimum of 1link at each stop, in order to find the answers to each question.

Screen-Cast

The students will be assigned to create a PowerPoint Presentation. Each student will be assigned to 5 different groups. Then each group will have to create a screen cast showing how to do complete different tasks on how to create a PowerPoint Presentation. The groups will need to show how to enter and change text, how to add pictures on a slide, change the background on each slide, to have a transition on each slide, and how to add a website link to a slide. The example screen cast I made was how to add and change text. I found screencast-o-matic.com to be very user-friendly.

Online Quiz

After the students read Bridge to Terabithia, they will have to complete an online quiz. I have access to a class set of laptop computers, the students will complete the quiz at the same time. I did have some difficulty while creating one my questions. I kept marking “multiple choice”, listing possible answers and marking the correct answer. For some reason, Quiz Star kept marking that question as a “short answer”.  Other than that I found QuizStar to be teacher friendly. I believe this quiz will be an effective way to grade the students understanding of Bridge to Terabithia.  After  the students finish the on-line quiz they will be asked to create their own online quiz  working with a partner using QuizStar about Bridge to Terabithia.

Online Photo Album and Slideshow

Photo Slideshow

As a class the 5th graders will discuss different characteristics of a solid, liquid and gas. The whole group will characterize different objects in their appropriate column labeled solid, liquid or gas. The students will then be instructed to take 6-8 different pictures. They will need at least 2 pictures for each category (solid, liquid and gas). After, the students take their pictures they will have to upload their pictures in an online photo album and an online slide show along with labeling the pictures correctly.

For some reason the online slideshow is not including my last picture of smoke. I have uploaded my pictures and tried creating another slideshow 3 times and it is still not showing my last picture.

Google Docs

Google Docs

The students will have to fill out a "Getting To Know You" survey.  This survey will help me know more information about them!  Once all the surveys are complete it will help me plan lessons accordingly to meet all the needs of my students. My students will then be assigned to groups of 5 and will have to create a "Getting To Know You" survey for me to fill out using Google Docs.

Click on the link to view the survey: Getting To Know You!

Another way to use Google Docs is to collaborate with other teachers in my building. My teaching team will do a “lesson study” with other teachers in our building. We will share our thoughts, ideas and lessons on Google Docs. As a part of the “lesson study”, each teacher will be observing other teachers. Google Docs can be used again for feedback about the lesson that was observed. This can be a very effective tool for communication.

Web 2.0 Tool

Web 2.0 Tools

The 5th graders will learn about the Earth and the Moon. They will be paired with partners and asked to research facts about the Earth and the Moon.  After their research is complete they will go to the following website:Venn diagram link, and asked to complete a Venn diagram accordingly. An example of a completed Venn diagram: completed Venn diagram.
I didn’t like that when I went to the completed Venn diagram, it wasn’t labeled with “sun” and “moon.” Other than that I found that everything else worked just fine.
